Mike is looking for additional ideas.SOMETHING DIFFERENT FOR MAR MEETING The LPAG March Art & Craft Exchange & Sale If you have art/craft supplies that you will never use buried in your artsupplies cupboard we have the perfect solution. Bring your extra supplies to our March meeting and exchange for something you want or sell to someone who needs them. There is no charge to participate; all we ask is that you make a small donation to the Scholarship Fund. Goods must be new or in excellent condition and you must take away what you do not sell or exchange. Tables are 6 feet long, and you may share if you wish. There are only a limited number of spaces available, so don’t delay! As space is limited call Barbara (937 4546) to reserve a table. March Meeting Help ..Mike reports: I suggest that we ask for volunteers at the February meeting that would like to meet Jeanand I and anyone else interested on the board to go to the storage locker and decide what things we would like to bring to the March meeting to sell. A couple of these same people should be willing to come to the storage locker on 9 Mar to bring things to the meeting and help unload and sort things back at the locker the next day. I think once we decide we can let people know what we will be bringing and perhaps this will encourage people to come to the March meeting. ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW IN THE FOXWORTHY GALLERY AHC’s annual Fine Arts Student Art Show is now on display in the Ann Foxworthy Gallery on the SM campus. This year’s exhibit features 120 works in various media created by students enrolled in fine arts classes. Inventive artists from all mediums present their best sculptures, paintings, pastels, graphic designs, photographs and more. Kicking off the new semester, this exhibit will inspire new students with the variety and creativity in the work, which was selected by instructors during December finals. Subject matter includes portraits, abstracts, type abstractions, CD cover designs and digital and traditional photography. Ceramics and assemblage pieces are also featured in the show. The exhibit is on display through Fri, 24 Feb. The Foxworthy Gallery is located inside the Academic Resource Center (ARC), building L-South, in the heart of the Santa Maria campus. Gallery hours are Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The gallery is closed weekends and school holidays. To learn more about Allan Hancock College’s fine arts programs, call the department at (805) 922-6966 ext. 3252. For information about the exhibit, contact Marti Fast, gallery director, at ext. 3465. LOMPOC MUSEUM’S CENTENO GALLERY An exhibit titled “Weaving Through Africa” is featured thru 29 Feb with a reception on 26 Feb (2-4) to meet Guest Exhibitor Ester La Pollo. This exhibit is a cooperative effort between the Lompoc Museum and Club Arcturus in celebration of Black History Month. The African baskets often conjure up images of women carrying loads of goods on their heads to and from the marketplace. But, baskets are so much more for Africans: a method of communication, an integral part of important ceremonies and a utilitarian art form. Join us on a journey to learn more about the cultural context of basketry in some of Africa’s many ethnic groups.
