LPAG Young Artist's Award Winner. The Arts Council Grant Awards Competition recently took
place and the winner for the LPAG young artist's award is Amanda Arnold of Santa Maria. Amanda is
a senior in high school and a gifted photographer. She will attend the San Francisco Institute of Art and
will be at our 10 May meeting to show her art and accept her $1,000 grant along with a 2013 LPAG
membership. Please try and attend.

available at the May meeting and now we have to sell them; remember $10 per book admits two people
and has maps to the locations. The weather plans on being on our side so bring sun protection lotion and

Exhibit Celebrates The Life of an Artist and a Student at Ann Foxworthy Gallery thru May 22. In
the seven short years from the time he first picked up a drawing pencil at age 12 until the day before his
death, Ian Hassett (SM Arts Council Grant winner) created beautiful artwork. His life’s work and legacy
will be displayed in an exhibit titled “A Lifetime of Art: Remembering, Ian Hassett,” through 22 May
in the Ann Foxworthy Gallery.

SM Arts Council’s Grant Showcase, 2013--Karen Ransome (922-5005)..with a Buffet and wonderful
presentations of grant winners. The Council will award $10,000 to emerging artists in the fields of
Dance, Drama, Music, and Visual Arts. First and Second place individual grants of $1,500 and $1,000
respectively will be awarded to artists in each of the four categoriesl; Bill and Jean Shinn are the 3023
honorees; all grants will be presented in their honor. Monday, 20 May; 5:30 to meet the Visual
Artists; 5:45 for Gourmet Deli Reception; & 6:30 for Performance & Awards. A super event for
only $20. Since 1972, the Council awarded over $214,000 to 320 locally trained artists through its

I regret to inform you the Santa Maria Philharmonic Society will be closing its doors at the end of this
fiscal year. You have been a part of the process of the development of the Santa Maria Philharmonic
Society over the past 12 years. The journey was fun; without enough financial support the programs
cannot go on. Remember to take care of the children and keep music alive for them and our seniors.

LPAG Important Show Note--If you show at any LPAG event, you must work a shift (or more) or get
a member to substitute.

Meeting Snacks--Need a coordinator to arrange and schedule for members to bring snacks to
meetings. In the mean while, we can wing it and a few of you can bring some cookies and if we get too
many (are there ever too many?) the bringers can take them home or leave them for the center.

NATURE PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION
2013 nature photograph competition! With the theme of "The Nature of Water", it is sure to be a
fascinatingly diverse show. The winning entries will be on exhibition at the new Wildling facilities in
Solvang July 10 - August 26, 2013.
